Eye Lash Extension FAQs

WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash extensions are an advanced technique that lengthens and thickens your own natural eyelashes. They are single strands of synthetic mink fibre that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. We use only premium extensions in faux mink and silk.
You will feel the difference.

HOW WILL THEY LOOK AND FEEL?

When applied by our skilled technicians they will look completely natural, only much longer and fuller. They will feel like your own eyelashes. We do not count lashes, we will add as many or as few as needed to create the right look for you.

HOW LONG WILL MY INITIAL APPOINTMENT TAKE?

We take an artisan approach with our customers and will not rush your appointment. You can expect your first appointment to take approximately 60-120 minutes. Unlike some salons we do not count eyelashes, a full set is a full set. We will use as many as are needed to create the right look for you. If you are happy, then we are happy.

HOW LONG WILL MY EYELASH EXTENSIONS LAST?

When properly applied and cared for, your eyelash extensions will last for four to six weeks. Please see the aftercare section on how to properly care for your eyelash extensions to maximize longevity.

WHAT IS A FILL AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET ONE?

After your initial set of eyelash extensions you will receive instructions on how to care for them. Fills are done every two to four weeks depending on care and how quickly your natural eyelashes grow. An eyelash extension fill take a shorter time to do and the prices reflect that.

WHY DO I LOSE SOME OF MY EYELASHES?

Due to the natural growth cycle of your lashes you will find your natural eyelashes shed every 60-90 days as new ones grows in. We recommend getting a fill every three to four weeks to fill in lashes on the new growth.

WILL EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY EYELASHES?

Yes and no. Yes, your lashes can be damaged if you go to someone who was not properly trained and uses cheap products not intended for long wear. No, extensions properly applied by a certified, trained technician who uses quality products should not. Our eyelash extension application techniques and innovative aftercare ensures your lash health.

A FRIEND OF MINE IS ALLERGIC TO THE PRODUCTS, IS THIS COMMON?

True allergic reactions do happen, but are rare. If you have developed an allergic reaction you may still wear extensions with some changes made to the aftercare process. What is more common is eye infection due to improperly washing and caring for your lashes.

Waiting 24 hours to wash lashes and not washing your eyelashes the entire time you wear them are the most common causes of infections. Imagine not washing the head on your hair for weeks or months. This is the most common reason wearers lose their lashes prematurely.

CAN I USE EYELASH GROWTH PRODUCTS WITH MY EXTENSIONS?

Lash growth products that contain steroids change the composition of your lashes and accelerate your eyelash shedding cycle, therefore we cannot guarantee the outcome. Natural lash growth products containing peptides are wonderful and will have no adverse effect on the longevity of your extensions.

WILL I STILL NEED TO USE MASCARA?

No, you will not need to use mascara with your lash extensions, but for nights that you want extra drama you can use a water-based mascara. See the aftercare section below for tips on using mascara.

AFTERCARE FOR LASHES?

Now that you have lush lashes take note of these tips to maintain them. With proper care and fills, your eyelashes can last indefinitely.

  • Do not get your eyelashes wet for the first two hours.
  • Do not use a spa, sauna or pool for the first 24 hours. The extensions need that amount of time to properly bond.
  • Avoid pulling or rubbing your eyes.
  • Do not use eyelash curlers with your extensions. With the proper application, you will not need them.
  • ONLY use oil-free makeup remover. We carry several brands in our studio and also provide clients with a do-it-yourself eyelash wash. If your eyelashes are tangled or crossed over, use the Spoolie given to you during your appointment to gently brush them straight and put them in place. You can purchase a longer life coating to extend the wear of your lash extensions in between fills.
  • Proper hygiene is very important. Please keep lashes clean by regular washing. We have a special foaming lash bath eyelash cleanser available online or in our salon.
  • Use only mascaras that are safe for eyelash extensions, no oil-based or waterproof mascaras. We have extension safe mascaras available for purchase at your appointment, or online. Only apply the mascara to the tips of your lashes.
  • After showering avoid rubbing lashes, it best to blot them with a towel and let them air dry.
  • You can also dry the lashes by using a hair dryer on the cool setting and blowing them dry from the bottom up. It makes them curlier and fluffy.
  • Use care when applying facial and eye creams to avoid the lash line. Too many oil-based products can break down the adhesive.
  • Pretty Girl Lounge recommends touch-up appointments every two to four weeks to maintain your new eyelash extensions.

Microblading FAQs

WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that creates mimicking natural eyebrow strokes, created with a handheld microblade. It’s suitable for people with little to absolutely no brow hair or for those wanting to darken, redefine or reshape their brow. Technically Microblading, also called micro-pigmentation is a form of eyebrow tattooing. But unlike traditional tattooing which is usually done with a machine, Microblade artists carefully apply each hair stroke with a hand held pen which creates a natural hair stroke that looks like real hair. Because this is a semi-permanent method, results will last 1-3 years on average depending on skin types. Generally, a touch-up session is required 4-8 weeks later yo reinforce the hair strokes.

WHO SHOULD AVOID MICROBLADING?

Please avoid Microblading if the following applies to you.

Those prone to keloids or post inflammatory hypo-pigmentation.
If you have transmittable blood diseases such as HIV or Hepatitis.
If you’ve had Juvéderm® or other fillers in the eyebrow area (depending on the timing check with your doctor first to make sure Microblading is suitable for you)
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding ( There’s not enough extensive research done in this area for most permanent makeup artists to feel comfortable performing this procedure on soon to be a mum ! Good thing pregnancy and Brest feeding don't last forever!

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING?

Expect for the procedure to take on average 1.5 – 2 hours to complete. Our Process:
  • Before Photos
  • Drawing of eyebrows to clients needs and requests
  • Anesthetic number cream applied
  • Microblade procedure after photos
  • There is no downtime so you're free to go after your appointment.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT?

The following restrictions are to ensure your skin is in the best shape for a perfect microblading session.

Do not work out the day of your procedure as body heat will expand your pores.
Avoid heavy sunlight exposure and sun burn 3 days prior to your procedure
Avoid heavy use of alcohol 48h prior to your appointment.
Do not take aspirin, niacin, vitamin E, ibuprofen or omega-3  48 hours prior to your apportionment unless medically necessary.
Botox, chemical peels and fillers should be avoided within 4 weeks of the procedure.

MICROBLADING AFTERCARE?

Post care to your new brows is s essential for the perfect look and to avoid any complications.
  • Do not let any water touch your new brows for 48h after the procedure. Do not let lotion, soap or makeup touch the eyebrow area for at least 5 days after your appointment.
  • After 5 days, ensuring your hands are clean. Apply coconut oil to the eyebrow area gently with a Q-tip. Repeat this for 7 days.
  • Itching and flaking may appear may within 7 days post your procedure. Rest assured that following your care instructions properly may help to avoid these situations.
  • Contact a physician if any signs or symptoms like swelling, fever or redness.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE?

  • The entire healing process will take 4-6 weeks. Depending on your body regeneration and age. Your new brows will go through several stages before complete.
  • The pigment strokes will appear very natural looking immediately after the procedure. Redness will dissipate within the hour. The color of the pigment will appear very dark the next day.
  • Because of natural skin regeneration. after the peeling is complete the pigment will look much lighter than the original. You may feel like the colour is fading too quickly, even with proper care customers may lose original “strokes” or even have an uneven shape. This is totally normal, this is why the majority of customers need a follow-up appointment 4-8 weeks later to reinforce the hair strokes.
  • Once the healing of the skin takes place your brows may seem dry and flaking. This is just superficial color and dry skin. Never rub, pick or peel your eyebrows as it will ruin them.
  • Your eyebrows will be apparent approximately 30 days after your procedure. Apply SPF 30 to SPF 50 sunscreen to your eyebrows if exposed to a lot of sunlight, as sunlight can cause pigment to fade even more quickly.
